I didn’t understand why my child would put up a fuss every day about attending school. I knew he wasn’t ill or suffering from any chronic pain that would have been a deterrent. I overheard him talking to his older brother about being teased about his fashion or style of clothing he wore. He was ashamed of his clothing not measuring to with the latest in fashion.
As time went by, I realized that keeping up with the latest fashion wasn’t the real issue. He wanted clothes that expressed how he felt on the inside. So, the next time you go shopping for your child, allow your child to be a part of the shopping experience. Later, when your child is attacked by the fashion bullies, hopefully your child can boldly say, “This is who I am.”
